The Office of Accommodative Services is guided by federal and disability rights laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. These differ from the IDEA and K - 12 disability laws in many ways, please review documents provided to better understand your rights and responsibilities in higher education.
Accommodations do not automatically transfer from high school, or another college/university.
We will evaluate your requests on a case-by-case basis and include our academic and/or housing policies in decisions made.
Access plans are developed during discussion with students about the barriers they experience in a college setting.
Accommodations are approved and in place after this discussion takes place with our staff.
Access plans/accommodations are based upon information students provide to us, and through review of paperwork that explains the diagnosis and major life activity impacted in a college setting.
If you do not have paperwork from a medical, mental health provider or educational evaluation that explains your disability, please submit your request for us to discuss with you. No student should delay meeting with us out of concern for not having appropriate paperwork. We will work to collect information from you during our meeting with you.
We do not back-date accommodations or require that students have the opportunity to re-do work that was completed before accommodations were approved.
Please contact our office as soon as possible after you decide to attend DCC.
You may wish to request accommodations for placement tests or Academic Housing in addition to classroom and classroom testing accommodations.
